Reports by the World Allergy Organisation (WAO) show that one in every four individuals in the United Kingdom experiences some form of an allergy. Although some allergies go away with time, not all do. Therefore, patients are advised to use antihistamines to control the symptoms. However, some patients are intolerant to antihistamines, and consequently, it is recommended that they use natural ways like workouts to manage their allergies. Exercises like cardio and yoga have over time been used to combat allergies; but it is important that patients follow workout regimes recommended by certified fitness professionals for optimal results.
Improved Metabolism and Weight Loss
Although weight loss and allergies are unrelated, Michael Wald, a medical specialist says that one impacts the other. For example, being overweight may contribute to worse allergies or asthma attacks because it burdens the adrenal glands which help in managing allergies. Therefore, working out helps reduce body fat which strains adrenal glands. Working out also increases heartbeat rates. Consequently, this increases blood flow in the body which in turn allows mycotoxins caused by moulds to quickly pass out of the body through the kidneys and the skin via sweat. Patients should also use decongestants or histamines before workout. This helps to purify the lungs and bronchial passages. Alternatively, taking honey and lemon water may be used in place of decongestants. Green tea is also recommended for people with allergies as it helps to de-congest the lungs thus opening airways.
Consume Healthy Drinks to Remove Allergens from the Body
Working out leaves the body dehydrated. Fitness experts recommend intake of healthy drinks like water and yoghurt before, during and after a workout. Research by the National Institute of Health shows that yoghurt contains bacteria called probiotics. Probiotics are friendly bacteria that lowers histamines that cause allergies in the body. Yoghurt also helps the immune system function normally, other than overreacting to allergens that make people sick. In addition, yoghurt contains nutrients like protein that are essential for the repair and growth of damaged cells in the body. Water, on the other hand, helps in sweating thus increasing the rate at which allergens are shed out of the body.
Control Secondary Symptoms of Allergies
Irritability, Congestion and Fatigue are examples of secondary symptoms of allergies. These symptoms can interfere with sleep. Although antihistamines can cause drowsiness, thus helping you fall asleep for a few nights, routine use of antihistamines as a solution for insomnia is not recommended. However, workouts like cardio improve sleep quality, therefore, helping put into control allergy symptoms. Consequently, changes in lifestyle like avoiding caffeine and following regular sleep schedules can help with insomnia. Seasonal allergies that come as a result of dust can be controlled by ventilating homes and regularly vacuum clean carpets.
Causes of allergies are difficult to diagnose at home. Patients should, therefore, visit an allergist for a skin-prick test if they are unsure of what is causing their allergies. Consequently, they should also seek advice from a certified fitness trainer on the best workouts to undertake when fighting specific allergies.
