Okeil

Okeil, a fitness enthusiast, graciously shared his compelling narrative about the twists and turns that led him from a sedentary office life to a passionate personal trainer.

Okeil’s journey into the world of physical activity started at a young age. High school days were marked by a love for cycling, a passion that kept him concentrated on staying active. However, the trajectory of his fitness journey took an unexpected turn when an office job at the age of 21 introduced a period of inactivity.

Sitting At the Desk

The consequences of this sedentary lifestyle hit Okeil hard. A lack of exercise, coupled with indulgence in unhealthy eating habits, resulted in noticeable weight gain, a stark departure from the active and vibrant individual he once was.

A turning point emerged, and Okeil acknowledged the impact of social events, extra alcohol, and extended periods of sitting at the office, recognising the need for a lifestyle change.

What followed was a story of determination and resilience. Okeil embarked on a journey of self-discovery, initially incorporating running into his routine and eventually finding solace in weightlifting. By the age of 25, fitness had evolved from a mere routine to a profound passion that fuelled his daily life.

Okeil attributed a part of his driving success to his brother, an avid fitness enthusiast, and high school friends who shared his commitment to working on their bodies. This support network, as Okeil emphasised, played a role in sustaining his motivation and dedication.

What Does Your Daily Nutrition Look Like?

Let’s look at Okeil’s diet to offer a glimpse into the disciplined regimen that contributes to his impressive physique.

Okeil revealed his commitment to maintaining his physique through consistent dietary choices. “I may have the odd weekend where I have a break, but most of the time, 80-90% of the time, I maintain quite a good diet.”

“For instance, today, I’ve got chicken breasts, beef, and some sea bass.”

Intrigued by the variety in his diet, I probed further, “So that’s three different meats you eat one day?”

Okeil clarified, “Three different proteins and three different veg, three different carbs.”

Asking whether protein shakes were a regular part of Okeil’s routine. “I don’t have too many protein shakes, just here and there,” Okeil responded, emphasising that they weren’t a daily necessity for him.

Enrolling With Focus Fitness UK

Reflecting on the decision to enrol with Focus Fitness UK as his trainer provider, Okeil recalled discovering the program online. “I was looking online for more details, and then I believe Chip contacted me, after I filled out a form” he explained.

Initially sceptical, Okeil had reservations until he confirmed that the program was government-funded. “At first, I didn’t really believe he told me that basically, it’s a government-funded course,” Okeil admitted. “So, in that sense, it was really good. It was convenient.”

Blending the classroom setting with online sessions, Okeil found the in-person experience extremely beneficial. “Going into the classroom is a lot more helpful,” he noted, emphasising the support and guidance he gained from the physical classroom environment.

Exceptional Support from Focus Fitness UK

Reflecting on the after-program care with Focus Fitness UK, Okeil accentuated the invaluable support provided by the program’s instructors. “After the program, the teachers were really, really good. There was not a time when I felt lost or where I had a problem. The staff were super supportive. If one wasn’t available, there was always someone else ready to help.”

Expressing his satisfaction with the program, Okeil shared his positive sentiments. “The staff kind of go out their way. They don’t just wait for you to come and find them. They make it really easy for you to finish the course well.”

Focusing on the specific courses he undertook. “I’ve completed their level two and level three personal training courses, and the exercise referral course.”

Professional Foray: Employment with Virgin Active

Okeil proudly affirmed, “Yes, I’ve gone into employment with Virgin Active.”

Okeil shared his positive experience, acknowledging the initial challenges in establishing a client base. The first few months of building his fitness business posed a significant challenge – a period where financial stability seemed elusive. “At first, it was hard because I had to lay the groundwork, like finding clients, but my work team made it easier because they have a system where every person that joins the gym gets a free session, giving me that initial introduction.”

Balancing Tradition with Innovation

When asked, Okeil expressed reservations about venturing into online training. “I’ve dabbled in a bit of online training, but I don’t find it as fulfilling. I really enjoy an in-person session because I can make sure their form is correct, and I feel that people get more results from an in-person session.”

This revelation reflects Okeil’s dedication to the face-to-face approach of training, prioritising meaningful connections and impactful results over the digital landscape.

Believe to Start, Believe to Continue

When asked about tips for those starting in the fitness industry, Okeil emphasises the importance of personality, self-belief, and unwavering persistence. “Just keep pushing. It’s will blow up.”

Okeil is now pursuing a level four nutrition course with Virgin Active. This choice underscores his dedication to carving out a niche and providing valuable advice to his clients. This extra credential allows him to step up as a master trainer, and effectively charge a higher rate for his services.

Motivational Resources and Training Styles

When asked about motivational resources, Okeil cites YouTube as a significant platform for acquiring tips and staying updated. He emphasises the practicality of the content, with a focus on incorporating routines for both him and his clients. Okeil’s training style is diverse, catering to a range of goals, ages, and backgrounds among his clientele, which spans from rehabilitation to muscle building, although 25 of his 29 clients are men.

Social Influence and Business Dynamics

Okeil acknowledges the role of social influence but notes its limited impact on his business or income. Due to the private and in-person nature of his training sessions, he doesn’t a huge put amount of effort into growing a social following. While he does maintain a social media presence, his primary focus is on face-to-face interactions, where he has established connections and gained clients.
