Nikol was working in a 9 to 5 office job when the pandemic hit and the UK went into lockdown. She’d had a passion for fitness all of her life and enjoyed being active and keeping fit as well as doing MMA.
At the time, Nikol knew she wasn’t working in her dream job but the pandemic was an opportunity to reassess what she wanted to do, as well as being an eye-opener for other potential career opportunities. By sharing her workout routines on Instagram, Nikol realised she was having a positive effect on people’s lives through exercise, especially at a time when the world was in crisis. This inspired Nikol and she knew it was something she wanted to take further, which was the start of her journey to becoming a PT.
Nikol began thoroughly researching fitness qualification training providers in London. “I did a huge amount of research into training providers because I knew I had to get it right. I only had one shot of training to be a PT and I was looking for face-to-face learning as I felt this would work best for me. Focus Fitness UK ticked all the boxes, it was clear they had a brilliant reputation and they also had great learner achievement rates which was reassuring.”
Nikol enrolled on the Level 3 Active IQ Diploma in Personal Training with Focus Fitness UK which she completed as a full-time learner over 8 weeks. “One thing that stood out to me from the very beginning was how knowledgeable and supportive the tutors were. They really went above and beyond to help every learner to do their best. They’d take the time to clearly explain things and demonstrate different techniques which is why the in-person learning worked so well. I got the same level of support when it came to finding my first job in the health and fitness industry, Focus Fitness UK are on hand to offer career advice and I still get emails from them flagging up relevant job opportunities.”
Nikol initially got a job with Gymbox where she gained experience as a PT and put her knowledge to good use training clients to reach their fitness goals. As Nikol’s confidence as a trainer grew, she decided to set up her own business, Storm Fitness.PT which has gone from strength-to-strength and Nikol has built up over 14k followers on Instagram. She also continues to train clients at Urban Fitness London and Legends Gym (North London).

“Enrolling on a course with Focus Fitness UK was the best decision I ever made. I’m now doing my dream job and continue to recommend Focus Fitness UK to anyone who is looking to start a career in health and fitness.”
What advice would you give to someone looking to pursue a career as a personal trainer?
“Don’t give up. At first it can feel difficult and overwhelming, especially if it’s a complete change in direction for you. Just keep showing up though and trying your best and enjoy the journey because the struggles are all part of the game.
“Achieving your qualification is just the beginning of the journey, you’ll learn lots of lessons along the way as you gain more experience as a PT but these will all add to your success and ultimately make you a better PT.”
