Success Stories: Paul started his journey on Focus Fitness UK’s personal training course in Vauxhall, London at the renowned Southbank Club venue, back in September of last year, 2016. Almost a year later, we caught up with Paul to see how he was getting on and to get a few of his thoughts about his experience on the course.

What were your aims before you started the course?

When I started the course, my aim was to basically get a better understanding of how the fitness industry works. I had no idea of how it works. How much money can be made. So that was one of my aims, to find out how much you can make, and what the fitness industry actually entails.

Did you have any reservations before you started the course?

To be honest, no. I thought I’d start the course with a clean slate. Obviously I’ve been training for some time, so I do understand about training, and what not. But I have no reservations at all. It was literally start the course, clean slate, fresh mindset, and go from there.

How did you find the course? What was the most valuable lesson you learnt?

Right so, one of the actual teachers … I forget his name now, Emanuel? That’s his name, yeah. He kept it real. He kept 100 percent real, and what he said was, “A lot of people that end up doing the course, end up passing, and then actually starting their role as a PT. But not actually succeeding based on their not actually understanding how it works, and not having the correct mindset.”

So he just said literally, “If you’re focused, if you’re driven, and if you have passion for working, and fitness then you will succeed.” So taking that on board actually really helped, and we still talk now. Shout out Manny.

How did you feel once you completed the course?

I was happy because it was about eight weeks, nine weeks, and I always wanted to become a personal trainer. So once we finished that final exam, and the last practical they were like, “Yeah you’ve passed it.” I was like boom.

How long did it take you to get into employment after you completed the course? Did you feel that you needed more assistance?

To be honest, no. It actually took me about a week and a bit, after the course finished. What Emanuel recommended that we did was actually start looking for jobs, whilst we were actually doing the course. So I did that, and I was offered a job with the Gym Greek. I was there for a little while, and then jumped ship to Easy Gym, and it was a quick transition, and been there for about four or five months now. So yeah, it’s good. It’s good.

Tell me about your role. Where do you work? Are you working full time?

So I’m a full time personal trainer. Self employed, and that. Off the circuits, off the street is where I’m based. Easy Gym, so I’m doing hours at the moment, 18 hours a week, and that consists of me doing classes, inductions, gym maintenance, helping around, that general stuff really. Just floatin’ about. So yeah, that’s what I’m doing now.

Would you recommend the course to anyone else?

Oh without no doubt, literally last week a few of the members they’re thinking of becoming personal trainers, and will come up to me, asking me what provide the values? Focus Fitness, the course is super cool. The course is engaging, and yeah I’m with them. So I do actually recommend them, actually I do as well. Starting off as a personal trainer, devoting hours, and once you get more comfortable with your clientele then start throwing in.

…And your final thoughts?

Yeah shout out Focus Fitness. They really, really, really helped. Going into the actual course itself, I had no idea what to expect. But from day one, everything was just chill. Everything was relaxed. Literally it really helped, especially Emanuel. I call him dad, but yeah. If I were to recommend a personal trainer, I do recommend Focus Fitness. Have a positive mindset, be positive, stay on course, and I guarantee you will succeed, 100 percent.
