OVERVIEW
When you undertake this course, you will be trained to a professional level in assessing clients and conducting massage on clients to keep their muscles supple and help them recover from training.
Sports Massage is a discipline growing in popularity and is a series of techniques designed to relieve tight muscles and improve performance and comfort of individuals. You may have seen Sports Masseurs in action at the start and end of running events, team sports or in a therapy room in your gym. More and more people are recognising the benefits of sports massage in improving the way the body moves and functions including:
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN FROM THIS COURSE
You will learn and practice skills to do hands-on work with clients helping them to train harder, remain uninjured or just feel looser in their everyday activities. The qualification contains the following modules and is run on a blended model combining online learning with 6 days attendance
Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Massage
Unit 2 – Principles of Health and Fitness
Unit 3 – Understand the Principles of Soft Tissue Dysfunction
Unit 4 – Professional Practice in Sports Massage
Unit 5 – Sports Massage Treatments
Attendance days will focus on learning and developing the practical skills involved in massage and building your confidence as a practitioner. Assessment is included on these days and includes:
- Multiple choice exam papers
- Completion of worksheets and client paperwork
- Practical assessment of Pre- sport, Post sport and maintenance massage
There are many opportunities in the sports massage field. Some full-time positions exist in sports clubs, many practitioners set up their own practice and it can be an excellent additional competence for current fitness professionals such as personal trainers, yoga teachers and Pilates instructors.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Although we don’t require you to have qualifications already, this course will suit people with an interest in sport or fitness and how the body works. If you have had a sports massage before this will be of benefit.
A level of communication and maths skills will support your learning.
Some learners may be exempt from unit Unit 2 – Principles of Health and Fitness if they have a previous fitness qualification.
