With the rise of new fitness and health trends taking over in 2017 and with the success of so many different food/diet trends, we believe it is only suiting that we release a post about the food options we predict will blow up in 2018. Some of which have already proven high popularity recently, others seem unconventional but are proving their worth, so keep an eye out for these choices as they could be the next big thing and you could be missing out.
Mushrooms

Fungi contain a significant amount of antioxidants and vitamins, particularly the amount of selenium found in mushrooms, which is great for maintaining a healthy metabolism and immune system (among many other benefits). However, uncommonly known is the amount of protein packed into these umbrella shaped delights, wit such a wide variety of different mushroom types, the nutritional value is off teh charts. If you enticed by benefits mushrooms withold, there is an interesting book on the it’s positive effects on the body by Tero Isokauppila – Healing Mushrooms. Additionally you can now find mushrooms in your favourite hot beverages known as Four sigmatic coffee etc, found in many health stores.
Matcha

On the topic of hot beverages, we must give a shout out to matcha which has become world craze in recent months. For those who don’t know, matcha is a powdered down version of green tea leaves which have been left to ferment in the sun, matcha can be split into different purities with prices increasing as purity increases, but with purity comes increased benefits. For a more detailed description of the health benefits, check this link and enjoy! Matcha first found it’s popularity as an alternative to coffee but served as a tea, but we expect matcha to rise in demand even more in 2018, why not jump on the bandwagon and find out why.
Meat free burgers
Now although meat-free burgers have been available for a long time, they haven’t been made to this level until recently, predominantly made of plant protein and with some burgers containing 20g per patty, the likeness to meat burgers is unreal. Even the colour has been matched to replicate the appearance of a meat patty in some recipes, some burger even bleed with the help of beetroot juice, but more importantly is the change in taste which has been emphasized and exaggerated to taste more succulent and appealing to even meat eaters proving vegan/vegetarian alternatives are just as tasteful. Be sure to keep an eye out for them, they are sure to blow up very soon!
Turmeric
More so a craze of 2017, but we expect a carry on into 2018 is the one and only turmeric powder. Popular in the Asian culture, is this exceptional plant of the ginger family used in both fabrics as a dye and foods as a colouring agent, but it has also been found to have significant positive effects on the body’s natural functions such the immune sytem, because of its antioxidant properties.
Intermittent Fasting
Not exactly food choice but definately a healthy diet choice, is the popular fasting routine known as Intermittent Fasting. This encourages an individual to refrain from eating for prolonged period of time in the hope of increasing the body’s metabolism. In turn, it helps the body to burn fat more readily, which is a perfect complimenting diet choice especially when in the cutting/fat loss phase of one’s fitness journey. Although this dieting style has been around for a while now, there has been a significant increase in popularity recently due to the amount of evidence supporting the effect on burning fat and positive results it produces on one’s health.
