Why is it, as humans, it can be so hard to commit to something? Especially when we ourselves have set it as our goals? Why can’t we set out on the paths we desire to embark upon? Why can’t we formulate a habit after doing so? Well actually, it isn’t that we struggle to develop lasting good habits, it is rather we struggle to eliminate our prexisting bad habits. Our bad habits tend to block us from pursuing true success and desire, however by removing these from the equation entirely, you will be able to work towards developing a dominant healthy habit, especially with regards to fitness. But first we must work on what is stopping you, before we can discover what will drive you:
Cut the excuses!
“Stay away from negative people, they have a problem for every solution.”
-Albert Einstein
“I don’t have time. I can’t afford it. It’s too late.” NO! NO! NO! Why don’t you have the time? Warren Buffett owns a billionaire dollar company, that’s billionaire if you didn’t notice, and he reads 500 pages a week, honestly you have time. You might just not be managing it well, check out our paragraph on “Time blocking” in one of our previous posts.
What’s next, “I can’t afford it.” sure you can’t (said in an extremely sarcastic tone). Not being able to afford something is a mtter of budgeting, and we don’t mean financially, we mean priorities. Have you budgeted where your priorities lie? No? How important would this habit be to your life, if it hangs quite high on you list, you need to invest in it because most likely the return for this investment will be worth it. Short term sacrifices for long term successes.
“It’s too late”. Probably, but not today! You still have time, just not an abundance of it, eventually it will be “too late” but untill then, what are you going to do with what you have left?
Stop worrying about your weaknesses
Another key to developing a good habit is to apply your strengths and stop worrying about your weaknesses. You will not only lose time focussing on the negatives, but also lose energy. Worrying about why you might not get the body you want form the gym because you have a weakness that blocks you, is no fault of the weakness, but rather your fault by giving it prominence. Focus on your character, not your reputation. Discover your strengths and work on developing them further to a point where they outshine your weaknesses and become a defining factor of your character.
Surround yourself with the right people
They say you are a combination of the 5 closest people you surround yourself with, so if those people aren’t in the right mindset themselves, you will soon fall into a similar position. Positive people who are determined and disciplined enough to seek out their fitness and lifestyle goals should account for a large percentage of the people you keep in your circle, and by ensuring this energy in your surroundings, you will be able translate tht energy into your own goals.
