
Women are powerful, no doubt about it. Many women have proven this throughout history with Lucy Stone and the suffragette movement to Beyoncé and her powerful movements in the music industry alongside her attitudes towards female empowerment. Women have proven their worth in many avenues of the world and sport is no exception. For this reason, we have decided to post a list of 5 female athletes who have successfully demonstrated, through their excellent level of achievements, powerfulness in sport at the highest level.
Serena Williams
A personal favourite of ours, our very own Serena Williams considered to be one of the best tennis players of all time, she is also a highly influential human being for dreaming big. Ranked No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association 6 times and in 2013 she became the oldest No. 1 player in WTA history. She holds 95 WTA titles, with 23 Grand Slam titles she holds the more victories in Grand Slams than anyone in else in tennis history with 325 wins. Serena won the Australian Open in 2017 while pregnant, and got to the final of Wimbledon this year just a few months after giving birth. The list of her achievements is endless.
Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey is the first ever UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion and in 2008 she became the first ever U.S. woman to earn an Olympic medal in Judo. In 2015, Rousey was undefeated in mixed martial arts with a record of 12-0, sadly she suffered a fighting loss in 2015 and again in 2016. In July 2015, she won both the Best Female Athlete and Best Fighter Awards at the ESPYs, our hats go off to Rousey for her all around powerful achievements. Rousey has now retired from the octagon and has moved onto bigger and better things (see picture above!)
Mia Hamm

Mia Hamm is responsible for a large part in the popularity of women’s football in America during the 90’s. Leading the United States Women’s National Team (U.S.N.W.T) to its historic win in 1999 Women’s World Cup, and she was named the Women’s FIFA World Player of the Year twice. With 159 goals she held the record for most international goals scored by any player, male or female, in the history of football. A very influential player in women’s sports history.
Danica Patrick
A high school dropout with 2005, she finished 4th in Indianapolis 500 becoming the highest-ranking woman in the Indy 500. She is also one of only two women to ever complete both the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500. Her win at the 2008 Indy Japan 300 marked the first time a woman had ever won an IndyCar Series Race. In 2013, she became the first woman to win a pole in a Sprint Cup Series pole. Voted Rookie of the Year in 2005 for her IndyCar Series season, Patrick is a truly powerful athlete.
Jackie Joyner-Kersee

Competed in 4 Olympic Games for the U.S. between 1984 and 1996. She has earned three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals in the women’s heptathlon and the women’s long jump. In 1988 she recorded a leap of 7.40m during the Olympic Games in Seoul winning her second gold medal breaking an Olympic Record in the process.
