It’s a blessing being a trainer, you are healthy, respected and you’re able to do the thing you love most, every day. Watching clients succeed, learning more about fitness, growing your business, it’s a beautiful journey, but it can be tough at times and highly demanding. for this reason at FFUK we believe it is important to point out some of the key things to consider when being a personal trainer if you want to be successful in the industry and if you are able to master these principles daily as a trainer, you will be an immovable force. Just before we crack on, we’d like to say thank you to anyone who has been enjoying the blogs, we always aim to bring the most up to date and relevant information forward in our blogs keeping it relative and insightful; If you have been enjoying our blogs, feel free to share it on Facebook with any of your other Personal Trainer friends/clients, we love to hear feedback. Let’s get into it:
Persistence

Sound cliché? Maybe, but we believe it is actually underemphasized to trainers and wrongly so because being a trainer you will experience many bumps on the road, which if taken on correctly can be seen as learning curves. Nonetheless, whatever point in your career you are at, much like every other PT you will have your fair share of lows, losing clients, high competition, lack of success from prospecting, whatever the reason, you will fall down a few times. But, persistence is exactly what gets you back up! The first few months as a trainer can be tough and the hours can be tougher, but your persistence has to be stronger than anything during this period and if so, you will inevitably succeed and will have learned a thing or two along the way.
Knowledge is power

Read, read, read. Read as much as you can round your subject, grow your knowledge base in an never changing the industry. This is why clients will sign with you, because you are the best at what you do and in order to be the best you need to be knowledgeable in your field, this involves reading on current literature, learning from other experienced PTs and reading blog (FFUK’s blog are a great shout).
Integrity
The industry is saturated now, but not with quality personal trainers, it is saturated with “Instafit trainers”. Now bear in mind, some trainers out there on Instagram and other social media platforms are preaching and promoting quality advice, but the vast majority are just feeding lies. Separate yourself from this fallacious crowd and establish yourself as someone with integrity and honesty, use your knowledge (as mentioned in the point above) to deliver truth in the industry, especially now given many people are providing “training advice” without a deeper knowledge base on the subject. Integrity is key.
Actively promote your business

Yes being a trainer is tough and it is even tougher during the first few months, but there is a tool which can make it a whole lot easier and that tool, is you. You are your business, which means you are the sole controller of whether your business peaks or plummets if you want your business to grow, you need to be putting the work in. This means standing outside all day every day, handing out personal training leaflets if needs be. This means talking to absolutely everyone in the gym to build rapport and get to know members on a personal and training level. Promote your business, no one else will.
